This afternoon there were some magpies making a lot of noise on our front patio with alarm calls and a lot of flapping and fussing about. It went on for ages, and I wasn’t terribly interested. Magpies are a flighty type of bird that tend to get antsy over the smallest things, but then Sandra knocked on my study door and said have a look at what the birds are carrying on about. The photos below explain it better than words.

It’s understandable that a magpie with a young chick would be upset about this intruder in her range.

I think this is a carpet snake, or diamond python, but I still treated it with due respect and kept a good arms length or more away while snapping photos.

It’s in a defensive posture, but not particularly agressive, just more interested in getting away from me and the pesky bird!
