On Eagle’s Wings

eagleswings.jpgbut those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 40:31 is one of the best loved and most often quoted Scriptures in the Bible. It is one of my personal favourites. It inspires hope in anyone who reads it, and has a great ability to lift the spirits.

I was meditating on this passage during the week, and I remembered seeing a television program once about Eagles and the way they ride the air currents.

Eagles don’t seem to put much effort into flight, they spread their wings into the wind, lift their feet off the ground and they trust the wind to lift them.

This is the picture this passage conveys. It’s not something that has to be a process. It’s simply lifting off.

As we spread our spiritual wings into the wind,we are lifted.

Some versions of the Bible translate the word ‘hope’ as ‘trust’

That translation, I believe is a more accurate picture of what Isaiah wanted to convey.

The eagle doesn’t hope that the wind will lift his wings. He trusts the wind to lift his wings.

It’s a fairly awesome leap of faith on his part when you think about it. He takes off from a high cliff and trusts that the wind will be there to lift him.

This is what God wants for us. He wants us to lift our feet, spread our wings, and trust in Him to be the wind that lifts our wings.

He promises that’s what will happen. They will soar on wings like eagles…

Will you trust God today to lift you when you spread your wings into the wind of His presence?
